The Carlingford Lough Endurance Challenge now in its 11th year is the longest running one day adventure race of its kind in Ireland. The 2011 event takes place on Saturday July 9th.
It is a multi-sport adventure race involving mountain biking, hill-running and sea-kayaking. The course of approximately 49km traverses the local Cooley Mountains and navigates Carlingford Lough in Co. Louth. Competitors mountain bike 30km (three stages of 17km, 4 km and 9km), run 17km (including two peak runs) and kayak 2km.
And after all this, they still have the energy to enjoy one of the best BBQ’s and post event party, on the circuit at Carlingford Sailing Club.Top competitors take four hours to cover the 49kms while the final finishers are expected just under 7 hours approx.
Once again, there will be two separate races, the Mt. Bike CLEC and the sports or ‘ Tarmac CLEC ‘ which will be an individual event and shorter, using a road bike, but covering some of the same run and kayaking sections as the Mt.Bike CLEC.
